Body builders under the Umbrella for Uganda Bouncers Association (UUBA) want the Electoral Commission (EC) to consider them as partners in enforcement of order in the upcoming 2021 general elections.
The bouncers say with the method of lining-up behind candidates being endorsed for elections at certain political levels, the deployment of armed security personnel alone could lead to grave causalities in case disputes arise during electoral activities.
Tonny Ssempijja the administrator Uganda Bouncers Association says they should be given a portfolio under a public agency with clear guidelines to regulate their involvement in the electoral process.
Ssempijja says their services will complement other security measures during the electoral season.
The bouncers have been seeking recognition from government as security officers and also be paid a higher salary. Ssempijja said that since they are providing security to city dwellers in entertainment places, they are also contributing to the security of the country so they should also be recognized.
They also want to be trained on how to handle people who go to places they guard with guns or while drunk, and also enjoy the benefits other security officers are enjoying like a moderate pay and be able to benefit from government’s Operation Wealth Creation.
