GGABA, KAMPALA: 15 APRIL 2026– A Tuesday morning commute of the suspect in the murder of four juveniles at Ggaba Early Child Development Center turned tragic after a Uganda Prisons vehicle transporting a suspect lost control, knocking a journalist.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:00 AM between Maranatha Primary School and Maranatha High School near the venue for the ongoing High Court sessions probing the murder incident on 02 April 2026, in which Okello is accused of stabbing four juveniles to death.
According to official statements from the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the vehicle involved was a Toyota Hiace (registration number UU 00067 T), commonly referred to as a “Drone.”
Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle was en route to a Mobile Court session to deliver a suspect identified as Christopher Okello. Upon reaching the court premises, the vehicle allegedly suffered a sudden brake failure.
Unable to stop, the vehicle veered into Mulwana Ronald (28 years), a journalist who was in the vicinity at the time.
”The vehicle developed a brake failure upon reaching the Mobile Court premises, causing it to knock down the pedestrian,” confirmed SP Kawala Racheal, the Police PRO for Kampala Metropolitan.
Victim Condition and Investigation
The victim, identified as Mulwana Ronald, sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for emergency medical treatment. His current condition remains under observation.
Police Action: Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the exact cause of the mechanical failure and the sequence of events leading to the crash.
Traffic at the Ggaba Trading Centre was briefly disrupted as police cleared the scene, but normalcy has since returned to the area and the court session is ongoing.
Further updates are expected as the investigation into the mechanical state of the police vehicle continues.
