KAMPALA, UGANDA: 04 MAY 2026— A new era of prosperity is taking shape for women-owned enterprises across Uganda, thanks to the pioneering GROW Project. This government-led initiative is successfully bridging the gap between traditional labor and industrial leadership, proving that when women are empowered to lead, the entire nation moves forward.
The Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project—a joint effort by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU)—has intensified its mission to scale women’s businesses. Backed by the World Bank, the project is specifically designed to increase the productivity and competitiveness of female entrepreneurs nationwide.
The latest data and outreach efforts from the project emphasize a critical shift: moving women into high-value decision-making roles. Under the banner “Her Participation Builds Progress,” the initiative highlights how a woman’s confidence to speak, plan, and decide serves as a catalyst for broader development.
According to the GROW Project, active participation in business decisions leads to: Strengthened Family Planning: Greater economic agency allows for more sustainable household management.
Enhanced Business Performance: Diverse leadership drives innovation and long-term competitiveness, and Household Stability: Increased income in the hands of women directly improves the wellbeing of the family unit.
”Women’s confidence to speak, plan, and decide strengthens families, improves businesses, and moves communities forward.”
A Nationwide Economic Catalyst
The project is currently operational across all districts, cities, and municipalities, ensuring that even women in refugee-hosting communities have access to the resources needed to grow. By providing technical training, financial support, and access to manufacturing infrastructure, GROW is dismantling the barriers that have historically kept women-owned businesses in the informal sector.
From technical trades to large-scale manufacturing, the project is encouraging women to break into sectors that drive the national economy, reinforcing the message: “Support her participation. Strengthen the family.”
How to Access Support
The GROW Project invites women entrepreneurs who are ready to scale their businesses to reach out for support.
