KAMPALA, Uganda: 18 July 2026— General Moses Ali, Uganda’s former Second Deputy Prime Minister and long-serving Member of Parliament for Adjumani West, has passed away. He was 87.
The veteran politician and retired military officer breathed his last at 4:25 p.m. today at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, according to a statement released by Captain Mike Mukula, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda.
In a moving tribute, Hon. Mukula announced the passing of General Ali with “profound sorrow and a heavy heart,” describing him as a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, and an elder statesman who devoted his entire life to the service of Uganda.
”His contribution to the struggle for peace, national unity, stability, and reconstruction will forever remain engraved in the history of our nation,” Mukula stated. “He was a courageous soldier, an astute leader, and an elder statesman whose wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to Uganda inspired generations of leaders and citizens alike.”
A Lifetime of Public Service
General Moses Ali’s political and military career spanned over five decades, making him one of the most enduring figures in Uganda’s modern history. He served under multiple administrations, holding several high-ranking ministerial portfolios before serving as Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament.
As the representative for Adjumani West, he was a fierce advocate for the West Nile sub-region, guiding his community through eras of conflict, pacification, and economic reconstruction.
National Condolences
Mukula extended his heartfelt condolences to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Government of Uganda, the people of Adjumani District, and the entire West Nile Sub-region.
”Uganda has lost one of her finest sons, but his enduring legacy will continue to inspire future generations to serve with integrity, selflessness, and unwavering love for country,” Mukula added, offering Islamic prayers for the deceased statesman. “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him His infinite mercy, admit him into Jannatul Firdaus (Paradise), and grant strength, comfort, and peace to his family.”
Official government communication regarding funeral arrangements and state burial protocols is expected to be released in the coming hours.
