The Anti-corruption court on Friday sentenced a one Thomas Odeke to 18 months imprisonment for impersonating top Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) bosses including the URA Commissioner General, John Musinguzi Rujoki.
According to a statement posted on Uganda Revenue Authority social media accounts, Odeke was arrested after a well coordinated intelligence operation following information that he was impersonating as a URA tax officials and obtaining money by false presence.
On 28 March, 2024 Odeke Thomas appeared at the Anti-Corruption Court presided over by His Worship Opit Christopher, on six (06) counts including; two counts of impersonating URA Commissioner General Mr John Rujoki and the Commissioner Tax Investigations, Mr Kugonza Denis Kateeba.
Odeke is also charged with one count of assuming a character of a tax officer for posing as the Customs Supervisor of Busia. He also faces three counts of obtaining money by false pretence.
However, Odeke pleaded guilty to all the 6 counts but was convicted on his own plea of guilt and sentenced to: Eighteen (18) months on count 1, Twelve (12) months on count 2, Eight (8) months on count 3, Eight (8) months on count 4, Four (4) months on count 5, and Three (3) months on count 6.
According to the statement, the sentence is to run concurrently meaning he will serve the maximum sentence of 18 months.
The tax body encouraged all citizens to desist from any unbecoming acts that shall lead to imprisonment.
