When COVID-19 forced Ugandans into lockdown, some musicians decided to lock down their pens and writing pads claiming they won’t benefit from music, others kept pushing their music songs to keep Ugandans entertained through the tough stay at home times.

After a credible survey, this website has compiled a list of top songs Ugandans that have been grooving to in the comfort of your homes during lockdown.

1. REPEAT IT – by AZAWI.

Azawi’s “Repeat it” was officially released back in February but it climbed up the playlists of Ugandans during lockdown, especially after the release of its video in April. “Repeat It” comes off Azawi’s EP titled Lo Fit.

2. RATATA – by ZEX BILANGILANGI.

Fresh out of Bobiwine’s Firebase crew, ZEX teamed up with Nessim in January and they crafted this banger “RATATA” that has been on rotation this lockdown. This was his breakthrough song and slightly before lockdown it was the biggest Ugandan Club banger.

3. BINTWALA – MUN G.

Mun G is known for not disappointing when it comes to making light of the moment. This is what he exactly did in this lockdown. As most people spent most of their days wearing gloomy faces, they needed something that would put a smile on their faces and they found that smile in Mun G’s “BINTWALA” song which focuses on nothing but the situation of most people during lockdown, eating posho without sauce, growing a beard because salons are closed and Museveni’s addresses among others.

4. KWATA ESSIMU – by FREEBOY ADAMS & WINNIE NWAGI

Released in March just a few days before Uganda confirmed her first COVID-19 case that forced us into lockdown, “KWATA ESSIMU” easily picked up the pace and made its way into playlists of Ugandans during lockdown. The massive dance challenges that were made by fans dancing to the song also helped it to move extensively.

5. NAKYUKA – by SHEEBA KARUNGI

Karma Queen Sheeba Samalie Karungi gave us a love themed song titled song dubbed “NAKYUKA” to take us through these hard lockdown days. The Video of the song contributed a lot to its movement as Sheeba shot it around her expensive mansion that the general public wanted to have a look at its view. This song was written by fellow musician Khalifa Aganaga.

A lot of COVID-19 sensitization songs were too released in the early days of the lockdown and among the many, Bobiwine & Nubian li’s “Corona Virus” and Bebe cool featuring all stars “Social Distance” also ruled as songs that advocated for keeping safe away from the corona viruses.

Among other Ugandan songs that have also been on replay from the above five include Pallaso’s “Akomelerwe”, Crysto Panda’s “Kyolina Omanya” , B2C’s “ Wujja “ among others.

Bravo to these and other musicians and artistes who kept smiles on our faces during the harsh period of the pandemic.
