The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has welcomed a decision by the leadership of Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia to investigate a plane crash incident that happened inside Somalia on Monday killing 6 people.
A Kenyan private cargo plane with 6 people on board left Baidowa on Monday but crashed as it approached Bardale, south of Somalia 300KM northwest of the capital Mogadishu.
Authorities in Kenya say the plane was undertaking a humanitarian mission related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We would like to pledge our continued solidarity with the governments of Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia and will support and facilitate investigations at clarifying the circumstances surrounding this incident” AMISOM Head of Mission Amb. Francisco Madiera said in a statement.
The Al-Shabaab militant group is active in southern Somalia, but the area where the crash occurred is under the control of government and Ethiopian troops.
The Kenyan foreign ministry on Tuesday, called for a swift investigation into the crash.
Kenya and Ethiopia are Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the African Mission in Somalia, and part of the support effort to bring peace in Somalia.
