Uganda’s Netball Team, The She Cranes continue to shine and reaffirm that their presence at the grand stage of the game in Liverpool, England was not by sheer luck.
Despite the hardships and last-minute uncertainty over a possibility to feature at the World Cup, the She Cranes secured their second win by beating Scotland today and registering a second win in the tournament.
The She Cranes surprised the Scottish thistles with a 52 – 43, with an outstanding shooting accuracy and advanced to the next stage in the second place with two points behind the group leaders Scotland.
Speaking after the game, the Assistant Coach Nelson Bogere emphasized preparation as the key to the Cranes win, but also said they are aware of what awaits them.
“We were prepared for that game. Scotland are a good team but we managed to win because we really wanted it. ..Of course this is a tournament so the higher you go, the more difficult it becomes. But we are ready for the challenge as well.” Said Nelson Bogere, the Assistant Coach.
“we really needed that win. It was fantastic. I had to play my game and rescue the team” remarked She Cranes’ Stella Oyella in a post-match interview. Stella won the player of the match award.
“It was great playing in such a fantastic atmosphere and such a big World Cup. I am disappointed we didn’t get a win but we will push on for the next game. It’s such a young squad and we can learn so much so we’re really looking forward to the next stage” said Claire Maxwell the captain of Scotland.
Uganda is among the top 16 teams from across the world who are competing in Liverpool England for the Netball”s ultimate prize –the vitality Netball World Cup.
Previously, the She Cranes managed a 69 – 48 win over Samoa, but lost to England the hosts in the opening game.
