MENGO, KAMPALA 18 MARCH 2026– His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Kabaka of Buganda, has urged the newly elected leaders to fulfill campaign promises and combat corruption, but also called out for responsible use of social media especially among the youths.

HM Mutebi’s call was issued in the official message to mark the 2026 Eid El-Fitr celebrations due on Friday. In a message centered on national healing and progress, the King congratulated the Muslim community on completing the holy month of Ramadan and addressed several pressing national issues, including the recent elections and the influence of TikTok.

A Call for Service and Integrity

Acknowledging the conclusion of the recent election cycle, the Kabaka congratulated the public on navigating the voting process. However, he issued a firm reminder to those newly elected to various leadership positions.

His Majesty urged leaders to: Fulfill their campaign promises to those who voted for them, Combat corruption at all levels of leadership, and Prioritize poverty alleviation to improve the standards of living for their constituents.

Addressing Post-Election Unrest

The King noted with concern reports of “various disturbances” and “unrest” (obugulumbo) occurring across Uganda, specifically within the Buganda region, following the election period. He called for open communication and dialogue among all stakeholders to ensure the preservation of true peace and stability.

The “TikTok” Advice to Youth

In a modern twist to the royal address, the Kabaka highlighted the massive influx of young people onto the social media platform TikTok. While recognizing it as a tool for information sharing, he cautioned the youth against using it for negativity.

”We ask our young people to use these platforms to share accurate information and discuss things that build the nation—such as religious education, modern farming, and health—rather than using them for insults and degrading others.”

The statement concluded with a request for continued prayers for the Buganda Kingdom and for leadership that focuses on the well-being of the individual. The Kabaka emphasized the need to protect the rights of his people, specifically regarding their property and land ownership.

His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi concluded his message by wishing all Muslims a peaceful Eid El-Fitr celebration, closing with the blessing: “Katonda abakuume” (May God protect you).
