Kampala, Uganda – June 2, 2025: At an awards ceremony held on Friday 30th May 2025 at Serena Hotel, Salt Media Sports Journalist, Geoffrey Mugerwa, was crowned the MTNFUFA Media Personality (Male) of the Year 2024, beating other nine nominees in that category.

After scooping the prestigious award, Mugerwa penned an emotional letter to his fans, supporters and colleagues -appreciating their support, but also shared about his experience spanning over 10 years in the field of sports and on air, leading up to his triumphant victory.

A presenter with a knack for local sports but also uniquely fluent in international Sport, Geoffrey Mugerwa presents “Akatimba k’ebyemizanyo both on Salt TV and Salt FM alongside Abel Kittaka;

Heartfelt Gratitude: Thank You for Voting Me MTN FUFA Men’s Media Personality of the Year 2024!

Halo to my incredible fans, supporters, and the Ugandan football family! This is Geofrey Mugerwa,and I am writing this with immense joy, humility, and overwhelming gratitude. Your unwavering support and votes have led to me being crowned the MTN FUFA Awards 2024 Men’s Media Personality of the Year!

Lifting this prestigious award is an honour beyond words. To know that my work resonates so deeply with you, the passionate followers of Ugandan football, is truly the greatest reward. This victory isn’t just mine; it belongs to every single one of you who took the time to vote and believed in my contribution to sports journalism.

Was the Nomination Well-Deserved? A Resounding Yes!

I am deeply humbled by the nomination and now the win. I firmly believe the recognition stems from a year of dedicated, comprehensive coverage across the beautiful game in Uganda, brought to you through the powerful platforms of Salt Media (Salt TV and our network of 6 radio stations: Kampala, Mubende, Mbale, Jinja, Mbarara, and Fort Portal).

My commitment was to bring you the stories that matter, from the grassroots to the national stage. Here’s a glimpse of the journey we shared in 2024, which I believe underscored the nomination:

1. Championing Future Stars: I had the privilege of extensively covering the 2024 CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship. Witnessing and reporting on the Rising Stars’ thrilling victory over Kenya to lift the trophy was a highlight, sharing the triumph of our next generation with the nation.
2. Bringing the AGM to Your Homes:I travelled to the heart of Karamoja to deliver in-depth coverage of the FUFA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Moroto, ensuring fans were informed about the crucial decisions shaping Ugandan football’s future.
3. Immersed in Tradition & Talent: Throughout the 2024 Buganda Masaza Cup tournament, I provided consistent, passionate coverage. This historic competition, operating under the FUFA umbrella, is a vital part of our football fabric, showcasing raw talent and regional pride, and I was dedicated to bringing every twist and turn to our audience.
4. Dedication to the Crest: Beyond these specific events, I consistently brought you stories, updates, and analysis surrounding our national teams – the Uganda Cranes, the Crested Cranes, and our age-group sides – keeping you connected to their journeys and challenges.

This award is a powerful validation of the hard work put in by myself and the entire team at Salt Media. It motivates me to strive even harder to deliver insightful, accurate, and engaging football coverage across Salt TV and our six radio stations, reaching fans from Kampala to Fort Portal, Mbarara to Mbale, Jinja to Mubende, and everywhere in between.

Once again, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Your votes, your engagement, and your passion for Ugandan football fuel my dedication. I am deeply honoured to be your 2024 MTN FUFA Men’s Media Personality of the Year. I promise to continue serving you with the same energy and commitment that earned us this accolade.

Let’s keep celebrating Ugandan football together!

Warmly,
Geofrey Mugerwa
