Following an impressive campaign at World Cup where Uganda’s Netball Team -the She Cranes emerged top on the African continent, the team’s head coach threatened to resign due to unpaid salary arrears.
She Cranes, head coach Fred Mugerwa made the sad revelation last evening at Serena Hotel where a grand reception was organized to welcome the team after a stellar performance at World Cup held in Cape Town South Africa.
“I am not paid any Salary and people continue to abuse me: If i was receiving Salary i wouldn’t mind” Mugerwa said at an event organized by the National Council of Sports.
Mugerwa whose contract will expire in November said besides allowances he has not been receiving a salary for the last two years.
At the event, government was represented by sports administration officials including the state Minister for sports Peter Ogwang who urged Mugerwa not to resign.
Uganda exhibited a stunning performance at the competitions beating the hosts South Africa in their last game by 49 – 47 to record their highest ever finish, taking the number one spot on the African continent.
Earlier, the team also got their first-ever World Cup victory over Malawi with a 57-46 win.
