The Ministry of Health has disputed reports claiming that Uganda has already entered the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
The ministry has also dispelled rumors that Mulago National Refferal Hospital is full to capacity courtesy of the third wave of COVID-19 infections which has hit the country.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Emmanuel Ainebyoona, whereas Health experts are monitoring a surge in covid-19 infections in several districts including Soroti, Ngora, Serere, Kumi, Bukedea, Rubanda, Kabale, Koboko, and Obongi among others, they still observe a decline of the number of covid cases. He said, the claims about a third wave are not true.
Ainebyona said, in the past week, Mulago Hospital received an average of 24 patients admitted and receiving covid treatment and as of 31 August, 2021 active admissions in both public and private health facilities stood at 449.
The Ministry of Health also registered concern over continued flouting of covid guidelines by some members of the public who throng bars and nightclubs despite the ban on these types of social gatherings putting lives at risk of contracting the deadly coronavirus.
The Ministry of Health stated that genomic surviellence to ascertain the strains behind the covid cases in Uganda and screening of travelers arriving in the country has confirmed Delta variant which is currently causing havoc across the globe.
The general population has been advised to take individual responsibility by observing various COVID-19 prevention measures.
