Tanzanian parliament has approved Dr Philip Mpango to be the country’s next vice president following his appointment by the president to take up the role.
All the 363 MPs in the House on Tuesday gave their approval for Dr Mpango to become the next vice president.
Dr Mpango was on Monday nominated by president Samia Suluhu picked Dr Mpango to fill the post that fell vacant when she was sworn in as Head of State following John Magufuli’s death. two weeks ago.
Local media reported that Mpango will be sworn in as the VP o(tommorow) Wednesday at State House Chamwino, Dodoma.
Following the confirmation, Speaker Job Ndugai declared the post for Buhigwe MP vacant as Dr Mpango now ceases to be a Member of Parliament as spelt out in the constitution.p
Mpango previously held several positions first as the Acting Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the Executive Secretary in the President’s Office (Planning Commission), the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance & Economic Affairs, the personal assistant to the president (economic affairs), the head of the President’s Economic Advisory Unit, and as senior economist for the World Bank.
