Four officials from the Office of the Prime Minister have been arrested for involvement in irregular procurement of food relief to vulnerable Ugandans in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
Head of the State House Anti-corruption team, Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema said Martin Owori the Commissioner Disaster Preparedness and Management, PS Christine Kintu, Accounting Officer Joel Wanjara, Fred Lutimba were arrested today to help with the ongoing investigations into procurement of relief items.
Nakalema said her office in liaison with Police Criminal Investigation Department carried out a special investigation on food procurement exercise which led to the arrest of the officials in OPM.
The officials were inflating prices of items and rejecting lower price offers from suppliers according to the statement this website saw. The procurement include that of maize floor and beans.
However, Nakalema did not divulge the details of suppliers and the amount of money involved in this fraud.
The new development comes at a time when reports are emerging that the items supplied were of low quality, an allegation that was disputed by government through the minister of Information and National Guidance Hon. Judith Nabakooba.
