Musician Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool has said opposition-leaning events promoters are responsible for the attacks against musicians who support the ruling government NRM.
Bebe Cool says the attacks are part of a premeditated plan to intimidate him and supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), which he said must be stopped.
Bebe Cool made the remarks during an interview with NBS, following an unfortunate incident on Saturday night when revelers pelted him with empty bottles as he performed during a concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
He says he has evidence events promoter Abbey Musinguzi aka Abitex is behind the attacks.
“The promoters must take responsibility and we know those groups… it is on record Abitex is one of them and he is on record urging people to do it” he said. “They send lumpens to events to incite crowds” he added.
He said he is happy Gen. Muhoozi came out and urged police to stop the practice, but also disputed claims that the arrests by police were triggered by Gen. Muhoozi’s tweet since the message was posted way after the arrests were made. 11 suspects have so far been arrested by police over the matter.
Asked where he drew the courage to continue singing as bottles were being hurled at him, Bebe said it was intentional to disprove his detractors and show the world that he is loved, and President Museveni has supporters.
He said he has already advised to police to plant plain-clothed operatives in crowds to monitor and stop the practice he said may erupt into chaos because his supporters are asking him to reiterate. He said the strategy effectively worked at a recent concert he had in Jinja.
