KAMPALA, Uganda: May 1, 2026 — A transformative shift is taking place across Uganda’s economic landscape as the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project intensifies its mission to reshape the narrative around women in leadership.
Under the banner “A woman’s leadership strengthens her family; it does not weaken it,” the initiative is challenging traditional stereotypes and positioning women-led businesses as the cornerstone of domestic and national stability.
The GROW Project, a collaborative government effort implemented by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), is emphasizing the direct correlation between a woman’s professional success and her family’s well-being.
According to project officials, women’s leadership in business yields three primary dividends: Increased Household Contribution: Greater financial agency allows women to invest directly in their children’s education and health, Reduced Family Pressure: Shared economic responsibility eases the financial burden on the household, and Sustainable Futures: By scaling their enterprises, women are building generational wealth and resilience.
”When she leads, the whole family moves forward,” the project statement reads, highlighting that female empowerment is not an isolated achievement but a collective victory for the community.
Supported by the World Bank, the GROW Project is more than just a tagline; it is a comprehensive resource hub designed to address the unique barriers faced by female entrepreneurs. The project focuses on three key pillars:
Productivity: Providing the tools and training necessary to modernize operations, Competitiveness: Ensuring women-owned brands can compete in both local and international markets, and Inclusivity: Expanding the number of registered women-owned enterprises across all districts.
How to Access Support
The project is currently active nationwide, encouraging women entrepreneurs to transition from subsistence work to competitive business leadership.
