KAMPALA UGANDA: 20 April 2026– The Parliament of Uganda has officially released the funeral arrangements for the late Hon. Helen Nakimuli, the former District Woman Representative for Kalangala.
Hon. Nakimuli passed away following complications during a surgical procedure at Alexandria Medical Center. Despite efforts by the medical team, the National Unity Platform (NUP) legislator did not survive the operation.
According to a statement issued by the Speaker’s Chambers, the week-long program will culminate in her burial this Thursday, April 23, 2026, in Luweero District.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, outlined the following schedule for the final send-off:
*Monday April 20, following the receipt of a postmortem report, the cortege departs for Kalangala District by ferry via Nakiwogo Entebbe at 2:00pm.
*Tuesday April 21, the body will be taken to Kalangala District Headquaters for a special session for local council to pay tribute and public viewing. The body will then be moved back to Kampala through Masaka for an overnight stay at the funeral home.
*Wednesday April 22, the body will be brought to Parliament for public viewing and thereafter a special session of Parliament convened to pay tribute to the Late Hon Nakimuli.
In the evening on the same day, the body will thereafter be be moved to National Unity Platform party Headquarters in Makerere Kavule prior to the official vigil at the family residence in Namungoona, Kampala.
*Thursday April 23, there will be a funeral service at Namungoona Orthodox Church and later the burial will take place at her ancestral home in Luweero.
A Legacy of Service
In the official statement, Speaker Anita Among described Nakimuli as a “dedicated legislator and tireless advocate for her people.”
The late MP was a prominent member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and was widely respected for her commitment to the island community of Kalangala. Her death marks a significant loss for both the opposition and the 11th Parliament.
