Kampala, Uganda – April 6, 2025 – The Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) has announced the temporary suspension of all commuter and passenger train services between Kampala and Mukono, effective today, April 6th, 2025.
This disruption according to URC is due to a track embankment failure at Namanve, which has affected the railway line along this route. In a statement released today, URC said the suspension of services is expected to last until April 14th, 2025, while the corporation’s technical team works to restore the affected infrastructure.
“Our technical team is currently on site and working tirelessly to restore the affected infrastructure,” the URC stated. “We are committed to ensuring that train services resume safely and efficiently by 14th April 2025.” The Managing Director of Uganda Railways Corporation noted in the statement.
He underscored the commitment to restoring services as quickly and safely as possible, and commuters who regularly rely on the Kampala-Mukono train line will need to seek alternative transportation during this temporary disruption.
The railway corporation sincerely apologized for any inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension and expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and understanding during this period.
