The National Unity Platform (NUP) announced it has lost one of its key leaders, Ms. Jolly Mugisha, the party’s Vice President for the Western region.
According to the National Unity Platform President, Robert Kyagulanyi, Ms. Mugisha passed away this afternoon at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for an illness over the past two weeks.
“With deep grief, we have learnt of the death of our Deputy President for Western Region Maama Jolly Mugisha. She has been bedridden at Mbarara regional Regional Hospital where she was in comma at the Intensive Care Unit.” One of the messages from NUP reads.
“Ms. Mugisha was a pivotal figure in the NUP, playing an instrumental role in advancing the party’s objectives and representing the Western region’s interests. Her dedication to political activism and her community endeared her to many, making her a respected and admired leader” another message reads adding;
“The passing of Ms. Mugisha is a significant loss not only to the NUP but also to the broader Ugandan political landscape. Her efforts in promoting democratic values and advocating for the rights of her constituents will be remembered as part of her enduring legacy.” Another message reads.
Jolly Mugisha joined NUP in July 2020 and was appointed to head the party in Western Uganda, the area which is home to the majority of leaders and founders the National Resistance Movement (NRM) including the president.
By Tuesday evening, outpouring messages of condolence were still coming from prominent politicians upon the passing of Jolly Mugisha.
“We are deeply saddened and we do stand with her family in this moment of pain. Her demise leaves a huge vacuum. Details of her burial arrangements will be communicated. May her soul rest in eternal peace.” NUP stated.
