A total of 53 lawyers will represent President-elect William Ruto in the presidential election petition.
The Kenya Kwanza lawyers on Friday 26 August led by Prof. Kindiki Kithure filed the first responses to petitions challenging Ruto’s win at Supreme Court in Nairobi.
ODM leader Raila Odinga challenged the August 9, elections and Ruto’s win claiming that IEBC failed to follow the law fully. He had made a claim that the election was not free and fair as it was marked with illegalities and irregularities.
Ruto was declared President-Elect on Monday, August 15 but his win has been disputed by Raila. Odinga who was making a fifth stab at the top sit has claimed that the election was rigged in favour of Ruto.
Four IEBC Commissioners have also distanced themselves with the result raising issue with how chairman Wafula Chebukati conducted himself. Chebukati has however claimed that the four attempted to force him to moderate the final result to trigger a fresh election between Raila and Ruto.
The pre-trial conference is set to be held on the 30th of August and will be presided over by a seven-judge bench led by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
