Hussein Ali was received at the Chakechake Airport by hundreds of CCM members and supporters amidst chants and sloganeering with no one putting on face masks to prevent spread of coronavirus.

Hussein Mwinyi commenced his tour in Pemba and addressed hundreds of party members, carders and followers and outlined his leadership manifesto once elected as president.

On the tour, Dr Mwinyi travelled with the seventh president of Zanzibar, the Chairman of the Revolutionary Council and CCM Vice Chairman, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein.

In June this year, while attending a Church service in Dodoma, Tanzanian president John Pombe Magufuli declared Tanzania a corona free country and stated that God had answered prayers of Tanzanians and saved them from the virus.

The Tanzanian government also stopped publishing data on the number of covid-19 cases in the country that never enforced a lockdown as a measure to prevent spread of coronavirus.

On 29 April, the last day official data was released, there were 509 cases, with 21 deaths in Tanzania. However, Mr Magufuli said that only four patients were receiving treatment in the largest city, Dar es Salaam.
