KISORO, UGANDA: 18 October 2026— Police in Kisoro District have launched a manhunt following a horrific late-night attack on Saturday that left a local businessman and his wife dead.
The victims, identified as Africano Nteziyaremye and his wife, Peace Kyompeire, were ambushed and shot dead by unidentified gunmen at around 11:00 PM on October 17, 2026.
According to a press statement released on Sunday by Superintendent of Police (SP) Nelson Tumushime, the Public Relations Officer for the Kigezi Regional Police, the couple was attacked while returning home from their wholesale shop located in Kisoro Municipality.
The fatal shooting took place in Zindiro Cell, Kamonyi Ward, within Kisoro Municipality.
”The scene was examined by a team of detectives and the canine unit for evidence gathering,” SP Tumushime stated, describing the incident as a “heinous murder.”
As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made, but police reassured the public that active efforts and security operations are underway to track down and apprehend the armed assailants.
The Uganda Police Force has extended its sympathies to the bereaved family and appealed to members of the community or anyone with relevant information about the attack to report immediately to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
