MITYANA, UGANDA: 29 September 2026- Police in Mityana District have launched a full-scale investigation into a daring early-morning break-in at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) offices, where unidentified criminals tied up security guards and made off with crucial office equipment.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 AM on Tuesday, September 29, at the NWSC branch located in Central Cell, Mityana Central Division.
According to a statement issued by Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, SSP Lameck Kigozi, the intruders first targeted two guards from SWAT Security Company who were deployed to protect the premises. The thugs overpowered and bound the guards with ropes before breaking through the building’s doors.
Once inside, the suspects shattered all office door locks, raided the accounts and finance section, and forced open a metallic safe. While the safe contained no cash, the perpetrators ransacked the building—pulling out drawers and scattering official documents across the floors.
The stolen loot includes: 10 Computer Monitors, 10 Central Processing Units (CPUs), 1 HP Laptop and 1 Internet Router.
Two meter-reading gadgets were later recovered outside the office, abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
Detectives and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) have thoroughly documented the premises. A police sniffer dog was deployed to the scene and tracked a scent for roughly 200 meters before losing the trail.
Police confirmed that the two SWAT security guards on duty have been taken into custody to assist with ongoing investigations. Statements have also been recorded from key witnesses, including Ms. Allen Nantambi, the NWSC Area Manager who formally reported the break-in.
Investigating officers noted that the lack of CCTV cameras at the facility has hampered immediate efforts to identify the suspects. However, police assure the public that every effort is being made to track down and apprehend the culprits.
