Yet by the time the final putts dropped at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa, the inaugural Serena Captain’s Putter had done exactly that, attracting close to 120 golfers and delivering a memorable debut that blended competitive golf, business networking and community impact.
The tournament, championed by Jimmy D. Mugerwa, Board Chairman of dfcu Limited and Captain of Serena Golf Club, was conceived with an ambition that stretched far beyond a single day on the course. His vision was to establish an event that celebrates the spirit of golf while bringing together the leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals shaping Uganda’s future. From the strong turnout to the enthusiasm from players and partners alike, the inaugural edition suggested that vision may already be taking root.
Against the backdrop of Serena’s recently upgraded course, players competed across multiple categories, while conversations flowed between fairways, tee boxes and the clubhouse. It was a reminder of why golf continues to occupy a unique place in business and society: it combines competition with connection, creating opportunities for relationships to develop long after the final score has been recorded.

On the course, Allan Atuhairwe stole the show in the guest category with an impressive 39 points to claim top honours, while strong performances across the men’s, ladies’ and seniors’ divisions ensured plenty of drama throughout the day.
