MUKONO DISTRICT: 14 February 2026— The Joint Security Task Team announced today, February 14, 2026, that they have successfully apprehended a prime suspect linked to her murder of Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU).
The suspect, identified as Dak Hussein Taewaiko, was captured during a targeted operation in his hideout in Budaka District.
According to a statement released by Racheal Kawala, the Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the arrest yielded more than just a suspect. Security forces recovered personal property belonging to the deceased in Taewaiko’s possession. This recovery is being treated as a critical piece of evidence that directly links the suspect to the crime scene.
Preliminary investigations have revealed a chilling detail: Taewaiko is reportedly a former house help of the late Tumwebaze. This suggests the motive may involve a deep breach of personal security and trust within the victim’s own home.
Tumwebaze was murdered in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. The assailant reportedly gained entry to her home in Gwafu West Village and She was found unresponsive in her bedroom after being strangled.
While the arrest marks a major milestone for the UCU community and the victim’s family, the case is far from closed.
Custody: The suspect is currently being interrogated to determine the full circumstances of the murder.
Search for Accomplices: Police are investigating whether Taewaiko acted alone or with others. The Joint Security Task Team has assured the public that further updates will be communicated as the legal process moves forward.
