KAMPALA UGANDA, 10 December 2025: The Government of Uganda and the United States of America have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on bilateral health cooperation worth USD 2.2 billion, aimed at strengthening Uganda’s health sector and boosting long-term public health outcomes. The agreement marks one of the largest health-focused partnerships between the two countries.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Uganda’s Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Matia Kasaija, welcomed the commitment, noting that the funding will support key health priorities, including HIV/AIDS response, disease surveillance, maternal and child health, and health system strengthening.
He said the partnership reflects Uganda’s dedication to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that vulnerable communities receive quality services.
The United States was represented by its Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. William W. Popp, who emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations.
He reiterated the U.S. government’s commitment to helping Uganda advance its health goals through sustainable investments, capacity building, and technical support.
The MOU is expected to accelerate progress in combating major health challenges while fostering innovation and resilience within Uganda’s health sector.
