KAMPALA UGANDA 31 October 2025: Kampala, Uganda – Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area (KMP) have significantly ramped up their efforts to combat crime, conducting a series of successful intelligence-led operations this week that resulted in the arrest of over 70 suspects in notorious criminal hotspots. The police leadership affirmed that these operations are part of sustained action to dismantle criminal networks involved in narcotic abuse, robberies, and other unlawful activities.

Targeted Operations Net Over 70 Suspects:

The decisive actions, carried out over the past two days, focused on areas known for high criminal activity:
* Nansana Division (Wakiso District): On October 30, at approximately 2:00 AM, an intelligence-led operation swept through Wamala Kasumba, Karanzi, Kinyarwanda, and Tabba sub-zones. Eight suspects were apprehended in connection with the illegal possession and abuse of narcotic substances, and are currently pending prosecution.

* Nakawa Division (Kinawataka, Mbuya Parish): Early this morning, October 31, between 12:30 AM and 4:00 AM, another disruptive operation in the areas of Thailand, Katogo, and Kago resulted in the arrest of sixteen suspects. They were detained from known criminal hideouts and charged with unlawful possession of suspected narcotic substances and public nuisance.

* Old Kampala Division (Nakulabye and Kisenyi): Territorial police in Old Kampala conducted two separate and successful operations targeting thugs involved in simple robberies and drug use. A total of forty-eight suspects—24 from each operation—were arrested. Police also recovered crucial exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances and various dangerous weapons. These suspects are currently undergoing screening and will be arraigned in court following the completion of investigations.

In total, the recent operations have led to the apprehension of at least 72 suspects who are expected to face charges related to narcotics and public order offenses.
Community Policing Efforts Emphasized
Alongside the enforcement drive, KMP Police continue to prioritize preventive measures through active community engagement.

On October 29, a community policing drive was held in Bulabira Kalitunsi, Najjera, focusing on critical issues such as neighborhood watch, crime prevention, domestic violence, general vigilance, and electoral offences. Residents were urged to enhance their cooperation with the police by sharing timely and credible information to bolster security in their areas.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, issued a statement commending the public and local leaders for their continued support.

“The Kampala Metropolitan Police leadership commends the cooperation of the public and local leaders, whose active participation continues to support our operations,” ASP Owoyesigyire stated. He further encouraged the public to “remain alert, share credible intelligence, and work closely with Police to ensure continued peace and security.”

The police have pledged to sustain these intelligence-led operations and community programs as part of their ongoing commitment to restoring public order and safety across the capital.
