STATE HOUSE, ENTEBBE: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus, meeting at State House Entebbe on Friday, March 7, 2025, resolved to support ten pivotal budget priorities for the FY2025/26 to drive Uganda’s continued development agenda.
The Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Caucus, briefed the media at Parliament on the outcomes of the meeting, which featured a keynote address by H.E. President Yoweri Museveni, the National Chairman of the ruling party.
The ten key budget priorities include: maintaining peace, security and the rule of law; human capital development, especially affordable healthcare, by increasing preventive measures against disease.
Other critical areas include education, water, and social protection; monetlzation of the economy through wealth creation initiatives that contribute to lowering the cost of money like PDM, Emyooga, UDB and UDC etc.
The NRM Caucus also deliberated and committed to back Infrastructure development: Railways – Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and Meter Gauge Railway (MGR), roads maintenance (paved and unpaved), affordable electricity, water and ICT.
Regional integration to guarantee markets; irrigation to stabilise agriculture, industrial parks for manufacturing including agro-processing; eliminating corruption; environmental conservation and protection of wetlands and forests and vertical and horizontal integration of the economy were also tackled and sanctioned by the Caucus.
The Government Chief Whip was accompanied by the State Minister of Finance, Henry Musasizi and Caucus Publicity, Brandon Kintu.
