TUESDAY 24, DECEMBER 2024: The First Lady & Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni today handed over the land (site) for the construction of Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium, to Ms Samco National Construction Company.
In a joint message read by the Government Chief Whip, Hon Hamson Obua, the first lady and state minister for sports Hon Peter Ogwang leaders saluted President Yoweri Museveni for championing the Akii Bua Olympic Stadium project. Other stakeholders saluted included the Cabinet, Parliament, MOES, NCS, Lira City/District, among others.
Obua handed over land worth 18.455 hectares to the contractor with an appeal for promoting Uganda’s BUBU policy and local content.

The function was graced by the presence of Hon Dr Aceng-City Area Mp/Minister of Health, MPs, religious leaders, cultural leaders,Lira City/ District authorities, and area security chiefs among others.
The Stadium is expected to be delivered within 20 months and will cost USD$129,743,185.
