One person has been confirmed dead and 6 injured in lightning incident that happened in Kasaazi village, Kalwana Sub County in Kassanda District on 08/11/024 at around 1400hrs.
The deceased has been identified as
Namawejje Jackline female aged 14 years a primary three pupil at Kalwana Primary School a biological daughter of Mawejje Baker a resident of mpologoma village Lwangiri Parish Kalwana Sub County in Kassanda District.
Police also identified the survivors as Naiga Sarah female aged 13yrs old a primary three pupil, Namaganda scovia female aged 10 yrs a primary three pupil, Navuga mary female aged 13 yrs old a primary four pupil, Nalubega prossy femsle aged 13 yrs old a primary three pupil, Nabankema Joan female aged 14 years a primary three pupil, and Ntuuyo Roden male aged 13 yrs old a primary three pupil.
Preliminary findings indicate that on 08/11/024 at around 1400hrs the deceased Namawejje Jackline was in the primary three classroom with other pupils plus the class teacher Alinyikira Sarah mugenyi who was marking books for the pupils as it was raining when hunder and lightning struck the class room through the window killing one pupil and injuring six other pupils.
According to the Police PRO for Wamala Region SP Kawala Racheal, the victims were rushed to Lwanjiri health center III for treatment and kassanda health center for treatment.
Postmortem has been done and body has been handed over to relatives for decent burial.
