The territorial Police at Katwe are currently investigating a harrowing incident of attempted murder after an unknown assailant welding a panga attacked a family in Ndejje, Makindye Ssabagabo and severely cut four children.
According to a statement issued by police, the incident occurred today (Monday) April 30, 2024, at approximately 10:30 am.
It is reported that an unidentified assailant, armed with a panga, forcibly entered the residence of a one Ayebare Anita, 25 years old, a resident of Bongole Zone, Ndejje in Makindye Division – Kampala, while she was having breakfast with her children.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the assailant, threatening violence, demanded a sum of five (5) million shillings in cash from Ms. Ayebare Anita but when she she resisted, the perpetrator turned his aggression towards her four children: Atuhaire Lucia (2 yrs), Ampaire Maria Zoe (5 yrs), Musiime Blair (7 yrs), & Ankunda Godius (14yrs), leaving them with critical injuries.
“Thanks to the swift response of both local residents and the police stationed at Mirimu, the assailant was subdued. It was later realized that he had inflicted injuries on the children.” Owoyesigyire stating that the attacker was shot and killed.
“The children were immediately rushed to Nalujja Medical Center at Batabata Entebbe road, for urgent medical attention. However, their condition remains critical.” He noted.
According to Owoyesigyire, the body of the suspect was later conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for postmortem, as investigations continue with the aim of ascertaining his identity and motive.
