Kampala Metropolitan Police is holding a teacher in respect to electronic sharing of fake primary leaving examination (PLE) papers ahead of national examinations on Wednesday November 8, 2023.
According to UNEB spokesperson Jenifer Kalule, the suspect identified as Okwenyi Tom, a former teacher but currently said to be working with a multi-national Agency.
Okwenyi currently detained at Police, is said to have formed a social media platform called ‘Elite SST Senior Examiners where he shared the fake papers to over 1500 members of the group.
Speaking at a weekly press conference at Nagulu Police Station, Ms Kalule said security teams are also tracking another group said to be sharing another set of fake PLE papers code named ‘beans.’
She noted that the fake papers are code named ‘Fertilizers’ but assured the public that in regard to the exams on Wednesday, the Board has not registered any examination leakage or prior knowledge of exams so far.
Primary seven candidates will undergo briefing on Tuesday ahead of exams on Wednesday starting with Mathematics in the morning followed by Social Studies and Religious education in the afternoon. Thursday November 9 will see candidates sit for Integrated Science in the morning followed by English in the afternoon.
According to UNEB, the forms of exam malpractice reported revolve around attempts for aiding and abetting malpractice via external assistance, attempts to destroy examination materials/ security envelopes taking images of the examination papers while candidates are writing papers, and online sharing of the same, as well as electronic sharing of fake papers purported to be UNEB examination papers.
“A number of these suspects have been arraigned in court, while in other cases, investigations are under way”. Ms Kalule stated.
“The Board would like to strongly caution parents and teachers to desist from being part of these criminal social media platforms/ rackets or any other group that may be involved in acts aimed at aiding and abetting malpractice. Do NOT participate in any way, in the electronic sharing of any such fake content purported to be UNEB papers.” She adds.
UNEB also cautioned parents against paying any money, alleged to be UNEB facilitation. In so doing, the examination body notes that you one would be aiding and abetting malpractice, and destroying the destinies of children.
Ms Kalule said UNEB officials are closely monitoring all online media platforms for anyone that may be vending purported UNEB Examination papers and warns members of the public against sharing or forwarding any content said to be UNEB Examinations.
