LOP Mpuuga urges parents to support talent development


The Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP) Hon. Mathias Mpiuga has urged parents, leaders and education institutions to support talent development as a means to create jobs for young people.

Hon. Mpuuga made the call during a Sunday service at St. Josephs Centenary Catholic Parish in Ndeeba where he was the Chief Guest at an event to raise funds towards procurement of a printing machine for the Church Choir project.

Mpuuga appreciated the Church Choir for nurturing young talents in music and other life skills from which many have managed to derive livelihoods.

The LOP who was accompanied by the area MP, Hon. Aloysius Mukasa, hailed the choir members for being innovative but also involving in intiatives which promote development.

At the event, residents reported to their Member of Parliament the challenges of rampant unemployment in Rubaga South, and the rising cases of criminality in the community. The residents also reported the challenge of floods every time it rains and land grabbing which is rife in Sembule Zone.

The area MP Hon. Mukasa urged security agencies especially police to step up to curb criminality in Rubaga but also urged the Uganda Revenue Authirity (URA) to roll out tax-education programs targetting the business community who reported unfair taxes yet most businesses are recovering from COVID-19 effects.

Hon. Mathias Mpuuga handed over a big envelope towards purchase of a printing machine which is proposed to be one of the income generating projects undertaken by the Church Choir. Hon. Mukasa also contributed towards the project.
