A Yemen national Al-Maamari Maged Mutahar Ali was convicted and sentenced to pay UGX120million for illegal posession and trafficking of Rhino horns.
Mutahar together with a Ugandan national Abubakar Mustafa were yesterday 14 September 2022 convicted by the Utilities, Standards and Wildlife court in Kampala for illegal posession of protected wildlife specimens and attempted export of the same without permit.
The two were arrested on May 29, 2022 at Entebbe International Airport with 26 pieces of Rhino horns weghing 15Kilograms concealed in food disguise to disguise identity.
Court sentenced Mutahar and Abubakar to pay UGX120 million and UGX40m respectively but further directed that Mutahar -the Yemen national be deported from the country.
The motorvehicle registered number UBH-194E which was used in commission of offenses was forfeited to Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) -according to a statement issued by the authority.
The Court also issued the offenders a caution for conspiracy to commit a felony.
