Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Mukono District, Hajjat Fatumah Nabitaka Ndisaba, has dismissed reports that she banned opposition MPs’ ambulances from operating on roads in the district saying she was misquoted.
Media reports this week claimed that Hajat Fatumah ordered ambulances donated by opposition MPs concetrated in Mukono municipality on account of causing traffic jam on the roads. The reports also attributed the alleged decision to the fact that the ambulances bear opposition political symbols and colours.
Nabitaka says, all she said was that the ambulances that bear political symbols and logos should not be parked at government facilities but instead be parked at MPs’ respective offices, and only access hospital grounds while delivering a patient or picking one for referral.
“I did not ban ambulances from roads but directed that they should be parked at the honourables’ offices since they all have offices in their constituences” Hajat Nabitaka said.
She also said government is yet to work out modalities on management of these ambulances at Mukono General Hospital or any government health facility, but also, hosting ambulances branded with political party colors at a public facility is unacceptable.
“If they were government ambulances, they shouldn’t bear political party logos because the General Hospital is free from any political party and all members of the public should freely access it’s health services” She stated.
“Therefore, the ambulance(s) should be parked at their (MPs) offices and any member of the public who needs their services should go there and pick it” She added.
Currently, opposition MPs in Mukono District have 7 ambulances in total including 4 owned by Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze Bakireke,1 belonging to Mukono district Woman Mp Hanifah Nabukeera Hussein, and 2 belonging to Hon Abdallah Kiwanuka -Mukono North MP and Fred Simbwa Kaggwa MP for Nakifuma County.
