Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni has sent a message condolence Queen Elizabeth II of England upon the passing of Prince Philip on Friday last week.
In a letter dated 11th April 2021, Museveni expressed shock upon the death of Philip who died at the age of 99.
“The People of Uganda, Janet and myself were shocked to learn of the death of your husband -the Duke of Edinburg, a few months short of his 100th Birthday. People in Uganda like myself and others, who were here in 1954, remember your visit with the Duke of Edinburg to Uganda, to commission the Owen Falls Dam across the Nile and also in 2007 for the Heads of Government of the Commonwealth” Museveni’s letter reads in part.
“As freedom lovers and fighters, we also salute his contribution to peace as a naval officer in the Second World War. May the Almighty God rest him in eternal peace” He added.
The Duke of Edinburgh, the longest-serving royal consort in British history, has been at the Queen’s side for more than her six decades of reign.
Philip is due to be laid to rest on Saturday (17 April) in a ceremony at Windsor Castle.
In a press release, Buckingham Palace confirmed that 30 members of the royal party, close family and long-serving staff will attend the funeral in accordance with current COVID-19 restrictions. It was also confirmed that Prince Harry will travel from his home in California, although a heavily-pregnant Meghan Markle has been advised not to fly.
