One person feared dead as landslides ravage 3 villages in Mbale

At least one person has been reported dead in landslides that hit Busaano Sub-County, Bufoto Parish in the eastern district of Mbale.

According to Uganda Red Cross, an adult whose identities are yet to be established, died in landslides that ravaged 3 villages of Shitega, Buwangwa Upper and Butsaale on Monday morning.

The landslides are as a result of heavy rains that have been pounding the area of recent according to Uganda Red Cross.

Ms Irene Nakasiita, the Spokesperson for Uganda Red Cross said an emergency response team from their branch offices in Mbale has been dispatched to the scene to support efforts on the ground to evacuate people affected.

Uganda Red Cross warns members of the public especially those living in disaster-prone to take necessary precaution as heavy rains have started in several areas of the country.

Mbale is one of disaster prone areas frequently hit be landslides alongside Sironko, Bududa and other districts in the area.
