Days after the office of the Prime Minister announced mandatory testing for all cabinet ministers, City administrators, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) have announced commencement of mandatory testing for all employees.
Testing commenced after four KCCA employees tested positive for coronavirus over the weekend.
KCCA Executive Director Eng. Andrew Kitaka confirmed the development and announced he is going into self-quarantine in his home for the next 14 days.
Testing of KCCA employees started on Tuesday and Eng. Kitaka says the move is to stop the spread of covid-19.
Eng. Kitaka is the second head of government institution to go into quarantine following a spike in cases of coronavirus in Uganda.
He said majority of employees have been advised to go into isolation to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Last week, Uganda’s Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda announced he was going into self isolation after his contacts tested positive for the virus.
Uganda has experienced a sharp increase in positive cases of coronavirus in the last three weeks jumping from 200 to 646 by Monday.
