The ministry of health confirmed that the newest case of coronavirus in Uganda is a Tanzanian national.

The case is a 34 year-old truck driver who arrived at Mutukula border post on 16 April 2020.

The case was confirmed out of 744 samples tested among truck drivers intercepted at border points of entry into Uganda.

The health ministry says efforts are underway to track the driver and return him to Tanzania.

This means the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Uganda still remains at 55. No death has been registered yet.

Tanzania, where authorities did not enforce a lockdown, has registered a surge in numbers of positive cases of coronavirus higher than anyother in the region.

In only 24 hours, cases of coronavirus in Tanzania shot to 147 after 53 patients tested positive on Friday.
