KAMPALA, UGANDA: 24 JULY 2026— The Uganda Police Force has issued a nationwide travel restriction prohibiting all public and private traffic movement on Saturday morning, July 25, 2026, to allow for the observance of National Cleaning Day.
The restriction will run for three hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., affecting roads and water bodies across the country.
According to an official statement issued by the police, the three-hour freeze is part of broader government efforts aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness, boosting public health, and curbing sanitation-related diseases.
Strict Limits on Movement
Under the guidelines issued by ACP Kituuma Rusoke, all normal transit will come to a halt during the specified window
“All vehicles, vessels, motorcycles, and bicycles shall not be allowed on the roads and water bodies except in emergency situations. Traffic movement will be restricted countrywide,” the directive reads.
Members of the public are urged to remain in their respective communities and actively participate in local sanitation exercises before normal activities resume at 10:00 a.m.
Exempted Categories
To ensure essential services remain uninterrupted, authorities have outlined specific exemptions to the movement restriction:
Medical & Emergency Services: Emergency response vehicles and individuals seeking scheduled medical treatment. Patients are advised to carry relevant medical documents, while health workers must possess valid identification.
Security Agencies: Security vehicles on official duty.
Cross-Border Logistics: Cross-border vehicular freight moving along major international transport corridors.
Call for Compliance
Police leadership urged motorists, traders, institutions, and community leaders to comply fully with the temporary shutdown and cooperate with law enforcement officers deployed on the ground to avoid unnecessary altercations.
Citizens seeking clarification or assistance during the three-hour exercise are advised to approach the nearest police station or supervisor on duty.
