KAMPALA UGANDA: 14 May 2026– In a major move to decongest the heart of the city, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has officially suspended on-street vehicle parking along Kampala Road and sections of Jinja Road.
The directive, issued in a public notice dated May 13, 2026, affects the busy stretch from the Entebbe Road junction all the way to the Jinja Road/Yusuf Lule Junction at Kitgum House.
According to the statement KCCA issued on Thursday, the suspension is part of a broader strategy to: Improve traffic flow within the Central Business District (CBD), Enhance safety for all road users, including pedestrians, and Support better mobility throughout the city’s core.
Alternative Parking Options
Motorists who frequently use these routes are being urged to seek alternative parking in designated areas nearby. KCCA has highlighted several streets and commercial facilities to accommodate the displaced vehicles: these are;
Street Parking along Station Road, Dewinton Road, Said Barre, and Nkrumah Road, Commercial Off-Street Hubs at National Theatre, Uganda House, and the Multi-Storey car park located along Portal Avenue. Other options are parking spaces in Private Premises: Motorists are also encouraged to utilize parking spaces within the specific buildings they intend to visit.
The Authority has requested full cooperation from the public, noting that enforcement officers will be on the ground to ensure the new arrangements are followed.
”We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue working towards a safer and more efficient city transport system,” the statement concludes, reinforcing the KCCA’s “For a Livable City” mission.
