KAMPALA, December 11, 2025 — The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has launched a full-scale investigation into the deaths of three sub-adult lions—two males and one female—in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The grim discovery was made today in the Nyamugasani area after the UWA team, using EarthRanger Technology, detected unusual movement patterns from a collared lion.
During the initial inspection and follow-up searches, investigators found compelling evidence pointing toward foul play:
A cow carcass was found within the same area and a portion of the carcass was placed in a bag containing unknown substances. The remaining part of the cow was left exposed. Additional items, including a panga and slippers, were also found near the carcasses.
These findings form a central part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of death and the identification of those involved.
UWA has formally notified the Police in Kasese, and the matter is now under joint investigation. The authorities are closely examining the evidence collected at the scene and pursuing all investigative leads.
UWA concluded the statement by encouraging the public to support Uganda’s conservation efforts by being vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities that may endanger wildlife or undermine wildlife protection initiatives.
