KAMPALA UGANDA: 13 November 2025 – The Kabaka of Buganda HRH Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II issued a strong statement emphasizing his Kingdom’s historical position in Uganda’s development, and it’s commitment to the well-being of the people. In a special message, the Kabaka anchored the Kingdom’s enduring strength in its long history as a “beacon of strength, unity, resilience and progress,” with its unwavering commitment deeply rooted in its traditional values.

He stressed that their ultimate goal, Buganda ku Ntiko—which seeks to place Buganda at the forefront of social and economic development while preserving its cultural mores—can only be realized through ensuring all citizens have access to essential services and opportunities for growth.

Bellow is the Kabaka’s statement in full:

“For generations, the kingdom of Buganda has stood as a beacon of strength, unity, resilience and progress. Our unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of our people is deeply rooted in our values and traditions. We believe that a thriving society is built on the pillars of good health, education, economic empowerment, and sustainable development.

Buganda’s vision: Buganda ku Ntiko (Buganda at the Helm of social and economic development with full enjoyment of her cultural mores) can only be realized if the people in our society live in good conditions, with access to essential services and opportunities that foster growth and prosperity. It is through collective effort that we can ensure a dignified and fulfilling life for all.

In an era where partnerships define the path to true transformation, the Kingdom of Buganda continues to forge strategic alliances with visionary institutions and individuals who share our dedication to uplifting communities. These collaborations are not merely transactions but a testament to our collective resolve to create lasting impact. Through shared responsibility, we are advancing opportunities in healthcare, financial inclusion, environmental stewardship, and more to ensure the progress we envision is shared by everyone.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners. Your commitment to this noble cause illuminates our vision and fuels our determination to build a prosperous future for all. Together, we shall uphold the values we espouse and set the meaningful corporate-community engagement.”

It is not clear why the leader of the prominent cultural institutions in Uganda chose to issue this statement at this particular moment, but the Kabaka’s message comes in the middle of a political season ahead of the January 2026 elections when politicians are campaigning for votes to elect new leaders come next year.

The ruling party National Resistance Movement, whose leader, Yoweri Museveni, has been in power since 1986, will tussle it out with a weakened and divided opposition whose members continue to suffer arrests, abductions and imprisonment. The country also suffers a challenge of monetized politics, poverty, a bloated government, corruption, poor service delivery, and a fragile economy threatened by a huge public debt.
