Kampala, Uganda — 23 October 2025: The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Preliminary Findings and Condolences:

In the statement, released on October 23, 2025, the Minister’s office extended its “deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives.”

Preliminary reports from the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety indicate that the crash was primarily caused by speeding and dangerous overtaking.
“Preliminary reports… indicate that the crash involved multiple vehicles and was caused by speeding and dangerous overtaking, a reminder of how one act of recklessness can cost dozens of innocent lives,” the statement read.

Commendation and Ongoing Investigation:

Gen. Katumba Wamala commended the immediate response efforts of the Uganda Police Force, emergency response teams, and medical staff of Kiryandongo Hospital for their swift assistance at the scene.

The Ministry of Works and Transport confirmed it is working closely with the Uganda Police Force and local authorities to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The public has been assured that the Ministry will provide updates on the findings, actions taken, and the way forward once the investigations are complete.

Call for Caution and Responsibility:

The core of the Minister’s message was a fervent appeal to all motorists and road users, urging them to prioritize maximum caution, patience, and responsibility while on the road.

“We call upon all motorists and road users to exercise maximum caution, patience, and responsibility on the road. No journey or deadline is worth a human life,” the statement emphasized.

The Ministry affirmed its commitment to continue intensifying various road safety initiatives and education to prevent and curb the loss of lives due to road crashes. The statement concluded with a prayer for the departed: “May the Souls of the departed Rest in Eternal Peace.”
