President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today held bilateral talks with his Zimbabwean counterpart H.E Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, who visited him at State House in Entebbe.
H.E Mnangagwa is in Uganda to attend the 11th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD).
During the meeting, President Museveni welcomed H.E Mnangagwa to Uganda. Mr Museveni also assured his guest that Uganda will work with Zimbabwe to ensure peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“We are already working together with you as the Chair of SADC and we are working very closely with Mr. Ruto, our chair of the EAC,” he said. Additionally, President Museveni thanked H.E Mnangagwa for accepting Uganda Airlines to make direct flights to Harare, Zimbabwe.
On his part,President Mnangagwa thanked President Museveni for hosting the 11th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development.
“I also thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded to me and my delegation in this beautiful country Uganda.” He also acknowledged the cordial relations which do exist between Zimbabwe and Uganda.
“Our relationship dates way back during the Zimbabwe liberation struggle,” he noted. He also emphasized the need to intensify the economic ties between the two countries.
“The Ministers of Tourism of the two countries should revive collaboration which is now long overdue. I want to express the desire for Uganda Airlines to fly directly to Victoria falls,” H.E Mnangagwa said.
He also commended President Museveni for standing with Zimbabwe against the sanctions imposed on his country by the western powers.
“I also thank you for spearheading the quest for regional peace and stability in the Great Lakes Region and for your role as the East African Community appointed Mediator for Inter-Burundi dialogue and for your lead role in the formation of the East African political Federation.”
President Mnangagwa also requested Uganda’s support in Zimbabwe’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council (2027-2028). In response, President Museveni assured him that Uganda will support Zimbabwe for the Security Council seat.
H.E Mnangagwa further reiterated Zimbabwe’s readiness to continue working with Uganda on bilateral, regional and continental levels in order to achieve their common aspirations as African countries.
