Budget experts under the Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG) have through a collaboration undertaken to broaden the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA) members’ coverage on budget and related matters.
The constructive arrangement spearheaded by CSBAG will be held periodical sessions dubbed Budget Technical Talks where experts on various topics related to the processing and implementation of the National Budget will be handled at depth. The first session was held on March 5th, 2025 in a productive training session held in Kampala.
In her opening remarks delivered at the first session of the technical talks that discussed “Uganda’s debt and its implications” the Deputy Executive Director of the CSBAG Ms Carol Namagembe stressed the value of partnership and future trainings to be held in the said arrangement.
Ms Namagembe highlighted that the expert knowledge to be shared at various sessions will better equip journalists under the UPPA and also sustain quality reporting on budget matters.
While making the main presentation, the Executive Director (ED) of the CSBAG Mr Julius Mukunda stressed the value of the collaboration, reasoning that it is through such that UPPA members would broaden and gain wider interest in budget matters to churn out authentic stories on budget.
“We look forward to more engagements with journalists to ensure that budget issues are well understood and communicated to the public in a way that makes them appreciate it better,” Mr Mukunda said.
The opening session saw over 30 journalists undertaken through the training. These journalists were drawn from specialties of TV, radio and print as well as online media.
The UPPA President Mr Samuel Ibanda Mugabi lauded the management of CSBAG for championing the critical initiative that enable journalists keep abreast with current budget trends in Uganda and across the globe. Supportive remarks by UPPA Secretary General Mr Arthur Arnold Wadero who buttressed the value of consistent information sharing in the above said collaboration.
