The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, will not be available to flag off the runners in the 2024 Kabaka Birthday Run slated for tomorrow Sunday 7th April 2024 -Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has said.
The Kabaka has instead delegated the Nnaalinnya, Lubuga Agnes Nabaloga, to flag off runners in this year’s event at the Kingdom Palace at Mengo.
Mayiga communicated the new development in a press briefing at Bulange, stating that on March 21 Kabaka Mutebi traveled to Europe for medical check up and specialized treatment, and he has been there ever since. He however noted that at the time the Kabaka went on that trip, the date for the marathon had been announced already.
The annual event commemorates the Kabaka’s Birthday and it attracts thousands of people, companies and organizations who participate physically or contribute money towards the run. The proceeds from the run are used to support healthcare initiatives and this year’s run is geared to support efforts to fight HIV/AIDS.
Mayiga told journalists that Kabaka Mutebi will return soon after all the medical procedures are complete.
Katikkiro Mayiga also said he spoke with the Kabaka who expressed pleasure for the support from different individuals including President Yoweri Museveni, parliament speaker Anita Among and MPs, NUP opposition leaders, religious leaders including Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, Supreme Mufti Galabuzi, Bishops among others.
According to Mayiga, the Kabaka is confident that Uganda can overcome the AIDS pandemic by 2030 as per the global target to eliminate the disease.
He said Ronald Muwenda Mutebi urged all people to participate in the event tomorrow with the goal to secure victory in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
