The Ugandan Army UPDF today announced it killed more than 48 terrorists in revenge operations conducted yesterday both in Somalia and the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo DRC.
According to the UPDF Deputy Spokesperson Col. Deo Akiiki, a total of 45 Al-shabab militants were Put Out of Action (POA) on 22 June 2023, in joint operations between the UPDF and Somali National Army.
Col. Akiiki states that on the same day, UPDF fighters inside DRC under the ongoing operation Shujaa conducted a revenge operation in which 3 Allied Democratic Force (ADF) commanders were killed and rescued a young woman and three children.
“Our troops in Operation Shujaa yesterday Put out of Action ADF middle commander commonly known as Jebulire and two others in Mwalika valley. A young woman from Rwashamaire Ntungamo and three children were rescued and 4 guns recoveed. We commend the effort to decimate ADF terrorists” Akiiki posted on social media.
The operation in Somalia follow a horrendous attack on May 26 when Al-shabab militants overrun a military base manned Ugandan peacekeepers and 54 soldiers were killed.
Last week on Friday, ADF suspected rebels attacked Mpondwe area in Western Uganda and killed killed 43 civilian including students of St. Peters Lubhilira Secondary School whose dormitories set on fire while they were sleeping.
It is not clear whether the rescued woman had been married to the rebels or he was abducted but the UPDF spokesperson said this information will be provided later as relevant security agencies continue to do their work.
The ongoing operation Shujaa is being undertaken by joint forces of Uganda and DRC in Eastern Congo to stump out terror and possibly pacify the region.
