The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) will today retire 618 army officers and men -Ministry of Defense Spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso has said.
The ceremony set to be held in State House Entebbe, will see a total of 14 General Officers, 604 Senior and Junior Officers and men, sent off into retirement.
Brig Gen Byekwaso however stated that for some retirees, the ceremonies will be held in their respective service Headquarters, formations and units.
“The MoDVA/UPDF recognizes their commitment, sacrifice, selfness and dedication to offering security service to a country at a time when many shunned the liberation struggle in favor of maintaining the status quo” the statement from UPDF reads.
UPDF says, because of the service of the retirees, the country’s course of history has been overturned across all spectrum, from an almost total shutdown to a new robust economy with guaranteed peace and stability in the entire country.
“The UPDF family congratulates the retirees for successfully completing their active duty in the forces” it adds.
The last time such an event was held was in July, 2020 when 1036 officers and militants who had served in the army for 20 to 40 years were retired.
