The Electoral Commission has today received the first batch of ballot papers in preparation for the 2021 general elections.
The first delivery was made by Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates which won contracts for Lot 2 of the ballot papers for 2021 elections.
The pallets were delivered aboard Emirates Airlines Flight number EK9757 at 6PMEST.
The delivery consists of 116 pallets containing ballot papers for districts falling in 7 electoral regions; Kampala, South West, Central South, Elgon, Karamoja, Northern region and WestNile.
According to the Justice Byabakama, materials for the remaining 5 regions are expected within the next few days, which is still within time. He said the delivery is a sign of the progress of EC’s implementation of critical and final preparations for polling and the commission’s readiness to deliver the election as scheduled.
The delivery was witnessed by agents from political parties and organizations and the media
Byabakama said the cost of the delivered election materials is 2.53BN out of the total consignment cost of 9.7BN.
Byabakama however acknowledged the fact that the materials have been delivered ahead of schedule and said he is impressed by the timely production and delivery of election materials. He said the team from EC were in the process to clear the cargo and deliver it to their stores for safe storage ahead of polls in january.
